2026 marks a pivotal year for international Chinese language education. Since the HSK 3.0 pilot test was launched at selected test centers worldwide on January 31, covering 168 countries across Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Oceania, the new examination system has completed its first six months. HSK 3.0 represents a systematic upgrade from the current version, expanding from six levels to a "Three Levels, Nine Grades" system covering five dimensions: topics, tasks, vocabulary, grammar, and Chinese characters.
Upcoming Exam Dates
The next round of HSK and HSKK exams will be held on September 13, 2026, covering HSK Levels 1–6 and HSKK Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced speaking tests. Registration has begun at various test centers, with deadlines falling in mid-to-late August. Candidates registering for HSK Level 3 and above must take both the written and speaking tests. Test scores are valid for two years.

On June 18, Chinese Testing International and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press jointly hosted the Global Cooperation Promotion Conference for the New HSK Course at the Beijing International Book Fair, providing in-depth analysis of the HSK 3.0 upgrade direction. Key features of the new system include:
Level Expansion: Elementary (1-3) focuses on daily communication; Intermediate (4-6) covers study and work scenarios; Advanced (7-9) addresses professional and academic contexts
Syllabus Upgrade: Provides clearer and more quantifiable guidelines for teaching and exam preparation
Application-Focused: Incorporates more real-life communication scenarios for comprehensive assessment of Chinese proficiency
HSK Level 4 remains the basic language requirement for studying in China.
