HSK 1 Grammar Practice: 是……的 (shì……de)

The 是……的 structure is used to emphasize the time, place, or manner of something that has already happened.

Structure: Subject + 是 + emphasized part + 的

Examples:

1. 我是昨天来的。I came yesterday.

2. 他是坐飞机来的。He came by plane.

3. 我们是北京认识的。We met in Beijing.

Exercise: Rewrite the sentences using 是……的

1. 我昨天去学校了。
   → 我是昨天去学校的。It was yesterday that I went to school.

2. 她坐火车去上海了。
   → 她是坐火车去上海的。She went to Shanghai by train.

3. 我们在公园见面了。
   → 我们是在公园见面的。It was in the park that we met.

4. 他今天早上八点起床的。
   → 他是今天早上八点起床的。It was at 8 a.m. that he got up.

5. 妈妈用手机付钱了。
   → 妈妈是用手机付钱的。Mom paid with her phone.

Tip:
是……的 is only used for past events. The negative form is 不是……的.
