Introduction to HSK Level 3

HSK Level 3 is an intermediate‑entry level of the New Chinese Proficiency Test. It corresponds to Level 3 of the International Chinese Language Proficiency Standards and B1 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). Test‑takers are expected to master 600 high‑frequency Chinese words and basic grammar.

Candidates who pass HSK 3 can handle basic communication for daily life, study and work, and cope with most practical scenarios while travelling in China.

Test Overview HSK Level 3 has 80 questions in total, including three sections: Listening, Reading and Writing. The full test lasts around 90 minutes.

• Listening: 40 items (~35 minutes)
• Reading: 30 items (30 minutes)
• Writing: 10 items (15 minutes)

Total full score is 300 points. A score of 180 or above means a pass. Each section (Listening / Reading / Writing) is scored out of 100. HSK results are permanently valid. For Chinese university admission, the score is valid for two years from the test date.
