The New Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) is an international standardized test of Chinese language proficiency. It evaluates the real‑life communication competence of non‑native Chinese speakers in daily life, study and work.
HSK Level 4 Basic Info
- Required vocabulary: 1200 words. Matches Level‑4 of Chinese Language Proficiency Standards and CEF B2.
- Test sections: Listening (45 items), Reading (40 items), Writing (15 items). Total 100 questions.
- Duration: About 105 minutes (including personal information filling).
- Scoring: Each section (Listening / Reading / Writing) is out of 100. Full total score 300. 180 points is the passing mark.
- Validity: HSK scores are permanently valid. For Chinese university admission, scores are valid for 2 years from the test date.
Candidates who pass HSK Level 4 can communicate in Chinese in daily, academic and simple work situations, read medium‑difficulty texts and write simple practical passages.
