The New Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) is an international standardized test for non‑native Chinese learners. HSK Level 5 is the fifth level of the HSK written test.
Candidates for HSK Level 5 are expected to master 2500 commonly‑used Chinese words. It corresponds to Level 5 of the International Chinese Language Proficiency Standards and C1 level of the CEF (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
The test consists of three parts: Listening, Reading and Writing. Each section has a full score of 100 points. The total full score is 300 points. A total score of 180 points is the passing mark.
It assesses candidates’ practical Chinese communication competence in daily life, academic study and work scenarios. The listening section checks comprehension of dialogues and passages. The reading part covers cloze and article reading. The writing section includes sentence‑building and short essay writing tasks.
HSK test scores are permanently valid. For study‑in‑China application, the score is valid for two years from the test date. Learners who pass HSK Level 5 are able to read Chinese newspapers and magazines, watch Chinese TV shows and films, and express themselves fluently on complex topics.
